Christian Bookstore
A Christian bookstore is an excellent source of many helpful tools and resources for the average Christian. You probably have found one or two in your area, although the inventory level may have been more than or less than what you would have liked. Although you may oftentimes find many Christian books even in secular or generalized bookstores, you will obviously find a greater collection of more specialized books in Christian bookstores.
If you do not live near a Christian bookstore and will need to make a deliberate visit, you can possibly prepare yourself mentally for the kinds of things you can expect to find and maybe already include in your shopping list:
- Bibles – In a well-stocked Christian bookstore, you will be able to find a large collection of Bibles, in every translation imaginable. If you are looking for a new Bible, this would be a great place to browse. Make sure you check out the different translations to see which one is the easiest for you to understand. Many experts recommend the New International Version for beginners, although they may prefer the New King James Version as being the best mix between understandable language and sticking as close to the original text as possible. Alternatively, you can also buy a CD of an audio Bible so you can hear the Word read for you!
- Bible study tools – Tools for Bible study are another great thing to check out at a Christian bookstore. Tools can come in the form of a study Bible, concordances, Bible dictionaries, and commentaries. If you are serious about studying the Bible, these tools will surely come in handy. Commentaries can be on specific books of the Bible or on the whole Bible. You may even want to check out an interlinear Bible with Hebrew and Greek text to help you check out different word meanings. Of course, you can easily use free online tools for some of this, so it would be best for you to buy only those that you could not find online.
- Christian books – You will also most certainly find a wide collection of Christian books. Of course, you may have to discern and sift through to find those that will truly help you fall in love with Him, but the mere fact that you get a wide selection to choose from increases the chances of you finding at least a few good books that focus on Jesus and His love for you as exhibited on the cross.
- Kids’ resources – In a Christian bookstore, you can also find helpful resources for teaching children about His love even at a young age. Sometimes, there may be story books, kids’ Bibles, activity books and coloring books. And speaking of children, you may even find a good collection of parenting books from a Christian perspective, such as Give Them Grace: Dazzling Your Kids with the Love of Jesus. This will surely challenge your perspective of parenting, as many Christians think that parenting is simply making sure their children behave well.
- Worship song resources – Christian bookstores nowadays tend to carry a collection of worship CDs and DVDs, too, so they are a good place to find a new album every once in awhile, at least if you haven’t already bought one through iTunes.
- Novelty items – Many Christian bookstores also carry novelty items or supplies for Bible study, such as journals, notebooks, planners, pens, markers and highlighters, keychains, and bookmarks. While you will obviously find these products in a regular bookstore, in Christian bookstores, these items may come with nice Biblical themes, like a sheep and shepherd picture, Bible verses on every page, mini-Bible keychains, and planners that come with a Bible reading plan.
- Gift items – In addition to supplies that you can buy for your personal use, Christian bookstores also tend to offer many items that you can give as a gift to loved ones. These include pen holders, memo pads, paper weights, and just about anything you can imagine.
With these things you can buy from a Christian bookstore, you will find it to be a great venue for your shopping escapades, not just for resources but also for other things that you may need.
